Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
