Seems like most people are constantly talking about pre-flop technique, so I wanted to talk a bit about how I wager on right after the flop. Possibly I can assist others, or maybe they’ve got advice to improve my play.
I imagine that two of the most crucial plays following the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive bet. Which is because these are the plays you make when you havent hit a hand but you could have a fine drawing hand. Its easy to bet on a hand when you flop a monster. But I imagine that these 2 are the ideal approaches to bet on a drawing. Each one is played depending on you competition(s) and your postion. So here’s how I wager on it, so tell me what you think.
Early Location – Tight Competitors:
A semi-bluff works fairly properly in this position. Arrive out gambling and if a tight gambler did not hit a hand he’ll probably lay down, and if he is unsure you might have a call. But watch out, if that tight player comes back over the top it may well be time to receive away.
Early Place – Loose Opponents
This really is were I like to try and do a defensive bet. Decide how quite a few chips you’re willing to risk on your draw and wager. This can be usually a much smaller bet than regular. It has been my encounter that the loose gambler will usually just call a wager rather than re-raise. However, should you check to them, theyre far more likely to throw in much more chips than your willing to pay.
Late Placement – Tight Opponents
It is the greatest time to complete a semi-bluff, specifically if most of the table checks. If that is the case you’ll probaly pick up the pot now. If a player prior to has bet, you might have to make a decision if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he will most likely go away since he was trying to steal the pot. In case you feel he does, properly then it is time to calculate your odds, and make a decision if the pot odds are worth the call.
Late Place – Loose Competitors
This one can be a bit challenging, simply because it’s tougher to put a loose player on a hand. And if your in late placement against loose player, odds are they have already wager. This is were I usually decide to take a chance and come back over the best of them and hope they don’t call, and if they do, effectively then its time to gamble. Odds are although even a loose gambler will go away when you come back strong enough.
Keep in mind though that these are moves I only generate following the flop comes and I have a decent drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Maybe 4 to the flush or the open ended straight, for instance.
