Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
